Services / Root Canal Treatments

Root canal treatment (Endodontics) provides a means of saving a tooth that would other wise require removal due to pain and infection. Injury to the nerve inside your tooth is most commonly caused by deep decay being left untreated or trauma to the tooth.

Root canal treatment involves removing a portion of the tooth to gain access to the nerve inside your tooth. Special files are then used to remove the damaged nerve and shape the canals.

Once the canals are cleaned and shaped, an antibiotic dressing in placed into the tooth to kill any bacteria that may have entered the tooth roots. This dressing will usually be in place for at least one week. At a subsequent visit the tooth root is then filled to seal the root canal.

Once the root canal is finished, a permanent filling is placed. In back teeth, a crown is required after root canal treatment to reduce the risk of the tooth breaking.
