Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening if performed correctly by a trained dental professional is a safe and effective way of rejuvenating your smile.

There a number of causes of staining and discolouration, many of which can be reversed through simple tooth whitening techniques. Phil uses custom made whitening trays which are worn overnight to gently whiten your teeth over the course of approximately 2 weeks. Clinical research has shown this technique produces less sensitivity and longer lasting results than in surgery, light assisted power bleaching techniques. These whitening trays can be used again in the future to whiten your teeth should you wish to do so, this saves you having to go through another round of surgery based whitening techniques. Another advantage of this method is that it is far more cost effective than power bleaching techniques.

Whitening toothpastes should be avoided as they are more abrasive and can wear away at the teeth and gums.

Composite bonding

In many cases, composite resin can be used to improve the appearance of teeth without having to remove any tooth structure. This can provide a conservative and cost effective solution to correcting problems with tooth shape, colour and alignment.

Although less durable than ceramic veneers bonded composite veneers are completely reversible, repairable and provide a highly satisfactory restorative option.

Ceramic Veneers

Veneers are a custom made shell of a tooth coloured ceramic (porcelain) material designed to cover the front surface of each tooth, much like a false finger nail covers over a finger nail. Veneers are used to give a highly aesthetic, natural appearance to teeth which are unusually shaped, discoloured, chipped or misaligned.
Although a small amount of tooth reduction is required, porcelain veneers offer a conservative approach to changing a tooth’s colour and shape.

Veneers are not always suitable and Phil will give you his professional opinion on whether these restorations are right for you. Veneers are often not advised if significant reduction of the tooth is required. They are also not suitable for teeth with little remaining healthy enamel and for people who grind their teeth.
